Therapist for Women in Oak Park, Illinois
WHEN WE FACE WHAT SHAPED US, WE FINALLY GAIN THE POWER TO CHANGE IT.
Meet Angie Martin, MS, LCPC, LMHC
“I NEVER THOUGHT I’D BE IN THIS POSITION.”
Life has a way of throwing things at us that we never saw coming—infidelity, trauma, abuse, pain you thought you’d put behind, or decisions you wouldn’t dream of making. (Or maybe ones you’ve caught yourself daydreaming about…even if you’d never admit that out loud.) If you’re finding yourself in one of those spots, it’s normal to feel confused, lonely, and unsure of who you are…or what to do next.
I HELP WOMEN WHO…
Cheated on their partner and don’t know what things will look like going forward.
Know something deeper is driving their choices and want to understand it.
Are stuck in obsessive thought loops and stress they can’t quiet down.
Are carrying the secret of an affair.
Feel torn between guilt and a strange sense of freedom.
Are beginning to see how past abuse or experiences still affect their life today.
THE WAY I APPROACH THIS WORK
CONSIDER THIS PLACE A CONFIDENTIAL CONTAINER FOR THE SECRETS YOU’RE READY TO STOP CARRYING ALONE.
Well, things might be in shambles (or they’re about to be). And I get it—not only as a therapist, but as a woman who has walked a complicated, messy, and painful path herself. When you’re in the throes of infidelity, anxiety, OCD, trauma, and more, it can be hard to see how a light could ever exist at the end of the tunnel. But I’m here as living proof—personally and professionally—that even when life feels like it’s completely collapsed, it’s possible to find joy and happiness again.
Even though I know you’re looking for relief (trust me, we’ll get there), therapy isn’t always a walk in the park. Along the way, there may be some anger—maybe even a lot of it. That’s okay. Anger usually shows up when something inside of us finally stops pretending that everything is fine.
My role in this process is to help you slow things down and start making sense of what’s really going on underneath it all. Together, we look at the patterns, the experiences, and the parts of your story that may still be shaping how you think, react, and move through relationships today. When we begin connecting those dots, things that once felt chaotic start to make a lot more sense. The way forward is to stop hiding from what’s behind you.
“THE ONLY WAY OUT IS THROUGH.”
ROBERT FROST
WHOLE BODY WELLNESS THAT WORKS FOR YOU
Because our bodies hold onto experiences—even when our minds are trying to move on—there can be tension, restlessness, or emotional reactions that seem to show up before we even understand why.
I pay attention to those signals, because they’re often where the real work begins. When we slow down and include the body in the healing process, we move beyond just managing symptoms and more into understanding what your nervous system has been carrying for years.
That’s important to me because real healing means more than just “feeling better.” It means feeling free. It means feeling more like yourself! It’s the connecting of mind and body so you can respond to life instead of constantly reacting to it.
Often, physical movement has the power to help this shift, so we’ll find ways to incorporate that in whatever way is best for you. (I even have two walking pads in my office, so if we want to get some steps in and do walk-and-talk sessions, that’s an option, too.)
However we approach it, the goal is the same: helping you release what’s been weighing on you so you can move through your life more intentionally and better aligned with who you want to be.
